I like the trade. Welcome to Pittsburgh Morrow!

The Pens traded from a position of strenght for a guy that will be a gritty performer for them and someone who should be renergized coming to a Cup contending team like Roberts and Guerin were.

Man it sucks that Morrow isnt going to make it to practice today, I was really looking forward to seeing him skate with the Pens today. Although he is expected to play in the game tomorrow night.

I like that Shero didn't wait on Iginla when it was apparent the price was too high. He quickly moved on to Morrow before other teams had a chance to get him even though he had a NTC.

-- Letang eight years at a little more than $7 million. If he refuses then Pittsburgh will look to move him.

There is no room for misinterpretation. Shero lays it on the line. If Letang refuses that kind of cake we'll see you on the flip side.

Morrow is a better fit here than Iginla would be.

7M is a lot but the cap will keep going up so it won't be that bad. Add into the mix all the entry level/RFA deals on defense for years to come and it wont be that bad. 7 is still higher than I would like to be at though.

I said 6.5 but I would be ok with 7-7.25. As you said, the defense is going to be cheap other than him in the next couple of years. If Shero is comfortable giving Letang that much so am I.

It would be really surprising if he turned that down. That is a really fair offer.

I think the Pens overpaid a bit, but that said, I like the addition of B Morrow. I suspect we'll see him play a bit on both Malkin and Sutter's lines. This team needed more grit and tenacity...problem solved.

If this was the going rate for Morrow, the price for Iginla is going to be nuts. It make you appreciate how well Shero has done in past deadline deals even more.

Looking at the game with the Habs, I think we may avoid Carey Price as the Habs play Boston the next night. Small break there but could make a difference

$7M/yr for 8yrs is a fair Cap Hit for Letang. He isn't going to get a vastly better deal anywhere else & the Pens can offer him an 8th year. I think this deal and Geno's gets done without too much heart-burn.

Sutter's deal could be interesting. Not sure what happens to guys like Kunitz, Dupuis, or Orpik either. Just have to wait, trust in Shero, and see what happens.

Preferably I would like it in that range too but whats another 500k. Cap will go up, Shero will evaluate and adjust accordingly. Same old same old.

I think we all have a good idea what happens to Orpik when he becomes a free agent and Shero does too.

500K a year isn't a deal breaker.

Exactly the same situation. I love that RS doesn't wait until he HAS to do something. Put the cards on the table and have mutilple plans in place depending on what the player chooses.

Yeah, the core will be here, but this roster could look A LOT different in a couple of years without some combination of Dupuis, Kunitz, Orpik, Cooke, Adams & Kennedy.

If Orpik were willing to play a 5/6th role at a reduced price of $1.5-$2M.yr or so on a 2yr deal, I'd take him over an Engelland or a Lovejoy-type. I'm a big fan of veteran depth at D over young guys when you are making Cup runs.

If he wants more, wish him good luck. Just have to wait & see, i guess.

Just thought it was funny that I just noticed Brenden Morrow is also a former Portland Winterhawk. Shero loves him some Portland.

Don't give up on the Iggy runors yet. There are still rumors out of here that it is entirely possible that Shero may go after Iggy as well. if that happens, there is no doubt in my mind that they win the cup.

Things you learn on Wikipedia, lol:

Morrow is the son-in-law of former Montreal Canadiens coach and former Dallas Stars teammate Guy Carbonneau, having married Carbonneau's daughter Anne-Marie on 20 July 2002.[22] They have three children...

No thanks... giving up one good prospect for a rental is enough. I'm not giving up a couple more for another rental.
